Hawks beat Ems 8-2, take opening series

The Boise Hawks scored seven runs in the final three innings Sunday, beating Eugene 8-2.

Outfielder Yasiel Balaguert went 2-for-4 with four RBI in the game, including a bases-clearing triple in the top of the ninth inning.

Boise starting pitcher Loiger Padron tossed four-plus innings of shutout ball in his first career start, with Carlos Martinez getting the win after tossing one and two-thirds innings of two-hit, one run ball. Mike Hamann retired five of six men he faced to earn his first save.

Padron's effort adds to two superb starts from Boise pitchers already this season; Hawks starters have not allowed a run in 14 and two-thirds innings pitched this season.

The Hawks (2-1) return to Boise for the home opener Monday night against Salem-Keizer (3-0) at 7:15 in Hawks Memorial Stadium.
