Local golfers teeing it up in junior qualifier
NAMPA, Idaho (KBOI) - Golf seems to run in the family for some of the Treasure Valley's best young golfers.
"My dad has played it his entire life so he got my brother and me into it," said Jadon Law, a 12 year old from Nampa.
"My grandpa did it since he was 18 and I just wanted to try it out," said 13 year old Lucas Clapp.
Ten youth golfers make up the PGA Rocky Mountain Section Junior League All Star Golf team that will compete in a regional qualifier this weekend in St. George, Utah. The team will face all stars from Las Vegas. The winner advances to the regional championship next month in San Francisco.
It's a scramble format, so players can rely on teammates.
"They help you look at the putts and see how it goes," Clapp said.
They may be young but their coach says they are wise beyond their years.
"I think what they have that we don't as we grow older is that they don't have any fear," said Tim Bensley, golf pro at Ridgecrest Golf Club in Nampa.
Players on the team represent Ridgecrest, Centennial, Banbury and River Birch Golf Clubs around the area.
