The Broncos are using a new practice drill called three by. It was developed last spring by a high school coach in Colorado and features three-on-three play, with one goalie guarding a small net with a regular stick.
They also use a tennis ball, to teach better stick control. Boise State head coach Paul Roccio says that's exactly what he's seen, and fast.
"Soft hands, choking up on the stick, moving the ball not your feet, finding the open man. It's just all the things we want to teach," said Roccio.
"I think the tennis ball helps us catch it, because it's softer and harder to get on your stick," added Liam Simmonds
"It's a lot harder to catch with because it's lighter, so I think my stick skills have gotten a lot better," said Tyson Henderson.
Parents have also found the drill useful, as tennis balls don't leave holes in windows, fences, or siding like the heavier lacrosse balls.
The Boise State Broncos will host another lacrosse clinic in September.
