"I am very excited to announce the hiring of Chris Jewell as our Defensive Coordinator," said Moroski. "Coach Jewell is a great person and a very detailed and thorough teacher. In addition, he embraces the standards of excellence of The College of Idaho, our athletic department, and the football program."
Jewell joins the C of I staff after spending the past two seasons as the defensive backs coach at Division II Fort Lewis College in Colorado, working under the tutelage of John L. Smith.
"I am excited to be a part of building a program from the ground up and creating something special here at The College of Idaho," said Jewell. "We will field a defense that will be fundamentally sound and tough."
Jewell spent time in the California junior ranks - coaching at both Southwestern College and at San Diego Mesa College. As the defensive coordinator at SDMC, his defense finished seventh in total defense among Southern California schools and 20th-overall in the state. He also has coached at the University of Ottawa in Canada and with the Nidaros Domers of the Norweigian American Football Federation.
"I believe that a commitment to excellence, establishing relationships, and hard work provide the foundations for success," said Jewell. "I believe that the game of football teaches life-lessons and prepares student-athletes to be successful on and off the field.
Jewell earned All-Conference honors at SDMC as a player in 1998, before transferring to the University of Idaho. He finished his collegiate career, earning All-Conference honors at Concordia University in Montreal, Canada.
He joins offensive coordinator, Tim Keane, and special teams' coordinator, Chris Petrilli, on the C of I staff.
The Yotes open up their first season since 1977 on Sept. 6 at Pacific University.
