Police: Nude stranger falls through patio roof onto barbecue
EUGENE, Ore. (KVAL) - A nude man fell through a patio roof and landed on a barbecue as officers attempted to talk him down off the roof of a home Thursday evening.
Police responded to a report of a naked stranger in an "altered state" attempting to enter a home at 15th Avenue and Buck Street in Eugene at 6:47 p.m.
The homeowner told the stranger to leave, according to police.
Instead, the stranger banged on the door and tried the door handle.
When officers arrived, they found the man nude atop the roof of the home in full view of children playing in a nearby park, police said.
"We located a ladder and we were trying to talk him over to get him off safely," Sgt. Marcus Page said, "and that's when the Plexiglas that he fell through was actually further in on the roof over the patio and he wasn't paying attention as he walked toward the edge there and fell through about four feet from the edge."
Medics took Russell Hess, 55, to the hospital for injuries suffered in the fall.
Hess was booked into the Lane County Jail on charges of criminal trespassing and prohibited nudity.
