Breaking news out of South Carolina -- one man is dead and two low country law enforcement officers are in critical but stable condition after investigators say a man shot them outside a home in Hardeeville, SC.

Jasper County Sheriff’s Deputy, Justin Smith, and Hardeeville Police Officer Celvin Grant responded to a domestic situation just before 6 pm Thursday.

"We got information from the caller that the male suspect was shooting a gun at his significant other," said Jasper County Sheriff's department, "We're not sure if it was the wife or the girlfriend."

Investigators say when officers arrived at the home, a man walked out and started shooting, hitting one Hardeeville officer and one Jasper County Sheriff's deputy.

Police say the officers returned fire, killing the suspect. The injured officers were flown to a local hospital where they are currently being treated.

"One to the Hardeeville Officer to my understanding in the arm and underneath the armpit and chest area," said Jasper County Sheriff's department. "The Jasper County Deputy was hit in the shoulder and in the hand and possibly the arm also."

Right now, investigators aren't releasing the name of the suspect.
