"What this does is it gives us that connection from Garden City to Boise on the south side of the river," said Toby Norton, a planner with the Boise Parks and Recreation Department.
Now the Greenbelt on the south side of the river essentially ends in Boise where Ann Morrison Park touches Americana Boulevard.
Norton said, "we're going to pick up from that location, go underneath Americana, follow the river, go under I-84, underneath Fairview Avenue, under Main Street and connect up to the Greenbelt at Joe's Crab Shack in Garden City."
Construction is slated to begin in 2015 and last about a year.
There are two key elements in this whole concept. They're going to have to build a pedestrian underpass on the south side of the Fairview Avenue Bridge a pedestrian underpass at the Main Street bridge as well.
The projected cost is $2.3 million, most of it from federal and state grants. The city will kick in some $200,000 from impact fees.
That's money collected from new development, not taxpayer dollars.
