Leaky roofs and aging buildings throughout the Treasure Valley are about to get an upgrade.

"We are so fortunate and we are very thankful for the support of the public last night we were able to pass our bond with 86 percent support," said spokesman for Boise School District, Dan Hollar.

Voters approved nearly $350 million of bonds and levies in Tuesday's election, including Boise School District's $172 million construction bond.

"It will literally touch every school in the district. Making facility improvements and that is a great thing," Hollar said.

Hollar says they hope to get to work immediately, starting with Boise High School's old gymnasium and leaking roofs that have caused issues throughout the winter.

"We hope to break ground on Boise High Gym, Amity Elementary School, and the expansion of Timberline High School," Hollar said.

A plant facility levy for West Ada School District passed by a slim-majority.

The levy will generate up to $16 million a year for the next ten years and will be used to maintain buildings in the district.

"For kids, it means they will be in a well maintained learning environment with heating systems and cooling systems that works, and electrical upgrades for all of the devices that are in schools," said Eric Exline, West Ada School District spokesman.

If the levy was to not pass, West Ada would have likely had to make sacrifices to their academic calendar.

"It would have been a challenge for us because $16 million, if we were to take that out of our general operating fund, that's the equivalent to 18 days of school and we couldn't cut 18 days of school to do what we need to fund and maintain our buildings," Exline said.

The Kuna School District bond and supplemental levy also passed in Tuesday's election.

But not every school district vying for a bond or levy was as lucky. Vallivue School District's plant facility levy was the only one that did not pass in Tuesday's election.
