Sun Valley to host US Alpine Championship in 2016
CARRABASSETT VALLEY, Maine (AP) - Maine's Sugarloaf ski resort is going to host the U.S. Alpine Championships next year.
The U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association announced Thursday an arrangement in which Sugarloaf and Sun Valley, Idaho, will host on alternating years from 2015 through 2018. Sugarloaf goes first and then hosts again in 2017.
Both Sugarloaf and Sun Valley have strong skiing traditions. Sugarloaf claims New Hampshire native Bode Miller, who skied at Carrabassett Valley Academy. Picabo Street learned at Sun Valley.
The last time Sugarloaf hosted a national alpine championship was in 2008, when Miller and another CVA alum, Kirsten Clark, both won the downhill in their divisions.
