The Idaho Foodbank is thanking the community and releasing preliminary totals from today’s Stamp Out Hunger food drive.

Early results from the Boise-area are estimated at 109,800 pounds so far, that's the equivalent of 91,500 meals for the 232,000 Idahoans who may not have dinner tonight. That's also with multiple drop off sites still remaining to report their totals. A full total will not be known for a week.

Donors filled bags with nonperishable food and left the donations at their mailbox to be collected by members of the National Association of Letter Carriers and The National Rural Letter Carriers’ Association.

This year marks the 25th year of the food drive, with donors in Boise and the surrounding areas donating high-need items like canned vegetables, juice, peanut butter, beans, canned meat, tuna, cereal and canned soup or chili at a time when donations drop off each year.
