The sighting happened around 12:30 p.m. in a field near North La Cresta Ave. Both Caldwell Police and an Idaho Fish and Game officer searched the area, but could not find any evidence of a mountain lion.
Officers were trying to find tracks to see if it was a cougar, a bobcat, or something else.
Cougar sightings aren't uncommon in our area because of how close we are to the wilderness. There are steps people should take to protect their pets if one is spotted near their home.
"When there is a possible sighting what we like to tell people is keep your pets inside for a couple of weeks." said Craig Mickelson of Idaho Fish and Game. "Maybe keep an eye on your children as well and keep an eye on animals. Keep them inside a little bit."
Tracks are much harder to find when the weather is dry and cold because paws don't leave large indents.
