N. Idaho recall effort over arming teachers ends
SANDPOINT, Idaho (AP) - A recall effort against a Lake Pend Oreille School District trustee in northern Idaho who introduced a plan to arm teachers has been called off due to a procedural error.
Bonner County Clerk Ann Dutson-Sater tells the Bonner County Daily Bee that the recall against Steve Youngdahl can't legally proceed.
Dutson-Sater says the Secretary of State Chief Deputy Tim Hurst determined that all the recall petition signatures needed to be submitted at the same time.
Recall organizers submitted the petition signatures in separate batches.
The group could make another attempt to collect signatures ahead of a May deadline. But recall organizer Tom Bokowy says the group has no plans to do that.
Lake Pend Oreille School District officials say there are no plans to make guns available for teachers.
