Dozens of local firefighters from the Treasure Valley are getting ready for the challenge.
They'll be heading to Seattle for the 22nd annual Scott Firefighter Stairclimb to raise money for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
Dozens of firefighters from Nampa, Boise, Eagle and beyond are practicing for the big event by tackling the stairs at the Unico US Bank Plaza building.
"This event really hits home - I think everyone has been affected by cancer in their family or their friends," said Shawn Mangun, team captain with the Nampa Fire Department.
"For me personally, losing a friend, having my father-in-law go through cancer, his cancer treatment was brutal," Rich Brown, team captain for the Boise Fire Department said. "I would love to see no one else have to go through that brutality."
Both the Boise and Nampa fire departments are among the nation's top 10 fundraising departments.
