Col. Tim Marsano says most of the 60 soldiers in Company A, 1-168 General Support Aviation Battalion returned to Boise on several commercial aircraft.
Last weekend the soldiers arrived at Fort Hood in Texas where Idaho Gov. C.L. "Butch" Otter welcomed them back.
Dozens of families eagerly waited for their return at the Boise airport this weekend.
"We haven't seen him for 11 months other than some Skype phone calls," said Mark Taylor about his step-son Teddy Smith.
After hugging his wife and family, Teddy Smith said, "it's a lot better than Skype, a lot better than a flat screen".
Smith says he plans to get some rest, eat and spend time with his family.
While in Afghanistan the soldiers supported Operation Enduring Freedom, operating eight UH-60 Black Hawk helicopters assigned to the unit.
Their mission involved transporting personal and equipment throughout the Afghanistan combat operations area.
