Idaho joins Big Sky all sports but football
HELENA, Mont. (AP) - The University of Idaho returned to the Big Sky Conference Tuesday to compete in all league-sponsored sports except football.
Idaho's football team will remain in the Football Bowl Subdivision as a member of the Sun Belt Conference.
Idaho was among six teams - including Idaho State, Montana and Montana State - that chartered the Big Sky Conference in July 1963. The Vandals left the Big Sky following the 1995-96 academic year.
League commissioner Doug Fullerton says many Big Sky teams are looking forward to renewing their rivalries with Idaho, which won the Western Athletic Conference's commissioner's cup last year.
Idaho will play its first Big Sky Conference volleyball match on Sept. 25 at Northern Colorado and its first league soccer match the next day, at home against Northern Colorado.
