Girl hospitalized, pet dead after fire rips through Caldwell home
CALDWELL, Idaho (KBOI) -- One girl was sent to the hospital, and a family pet died after a fire ripped through a Caldwell home early Monday morning.
Caldwell firefighters said they got to the house on Ormsby Avenue around 2:30 a.m. and saw flames shooting out the front door and a window. That's when they called a second alarm, and crews from Middleton and Nampa came to help.
Fire crews said five people were inside, but made it out of the house by the time help arrived. One girl who was inside told first responders that she woke up to flames at her feet. She was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Firefighters said the family's dog was still inside when they got there, and crews were unfortunately unable to save the pet.
Firefighters spent about two hours putting out the flames and cleaning up. They said the entire house has major smoke damage, and the front of the home is completely burned. But crews say everything in the garage is salvageable.
A fire investigator will be back once the sun comes up to try and figure out a cause.
