Michael Houlihan and Bonnie Harvey started Barefoot Wine out of their laundry room in California back in 1985. The current owner of the Stagecoach Inn in Boise, Rick Fraser, was a distributor in California at the time.
Early in their business Michael had a different distributor who didn't pay his bill, and put is wine out in the hot sun. That could have been a huge financial hit, but he called Fraser who went and picked up the wine and began selling it.
Eventually Barefoot Wine became one of the best selling brands in the country over the next 20 years. Even with all their success Michael and Bonnie decided to sell their business in 2005.
They've now written a book called "The Barefoot Spirit" as a fun way to tell their journey, and give advise to young Entrepreneurs. The couple also hope those same people will go out and transform the way things are done.
"If they don't know their industry all the better because if they will ask questions that haven't been asked, and they will come up with answers that haven't been thought of," said Houlihan.
