Emergency food store created in Weiser after grocery store roof collapse
WEISER, Idaho (KBOI) —
The Idaho Foodbank has donated about 23,000 pounds of food to residents in Weiser who have been heavily impacted by historic snow.
On Wednesday, an emergency food store was put in place after Weiser lost its only grocery store last week to a roof collapse. It looked like an old-school fire brigade with dozens of volunteers handing out food boxes, which contained meat, juice boxes, pasta, Cliff bars, bread and more.
A line of cars wrapped around the building. Organizers say this was desperately needed.
"Anybody in the area that needs food and can't access it has some access in one way or another," said Heather Echeveste, Western Idaho Community Action Partnership spokeswoman.
About 400 families were helped on Wednesday with the food.
