The coroner says says Phyllis Ward, 74, died of blunt force trauma to the head.
Her body was badly burned in the fire, which was located at 5824 Randolph Drive.
"This is tragic for this family and her neighborhood. Mrs. Ward is a long time resident of Randolph Drive," said Sgt. Mark Barnett with the Boise Police Violent Crimes Unit.
"For both her family and our community, we're working very hard to find answers as to what happened to her and why."
Police say no arrests have been made and there is no suspect information to relay to the public.
Nobody else was inside the house. Officials with the Boise Fire Department say the blaze started in the bedroom of the home.

"Crews went inside, found the victim on the bed and there was heavy fire inside the bedroom," Chief Dennis Doan with Boise Fire said on Monday. "The patient did not make it."
Much of the home suffered heat damage, the worst being the rear corner of the main level of the house where fire damage also went into the walls and attic.
