Detectives in north Idaho say a Facebook post getting shared across social media circles seeking pit bulls for dog fighting appears to be a hoax.

But they'd still like to track down who posted the post in question.

Coeur d'Alene Police says the department was made aware of a post on a swap and shop page on Thursday.

A search of the group shows several users highlight the same post in question, which says: "I'm looking to buy a few pitbulls. Does anybody have any they wanna sell or get rid of? It's for a chomper league. I need 2 bait and at least 2 fighters. Thanks in advance. I can pay 500 each."

CDA Police says detectives are investigating the post, but say it believes at this time it appears to be a hoax.

"We will continue to work with Facebook and hope to identify and locate this individual as soon as possible," police said in a news release.
