The Canyon County Prosecutor's Office says Michael Joe Brown was sentenced to 10 years in prison. He'll have to serve four years in prison before he's eligible for parole.
However, a judge can look at Brown's case after a year and can alter the sentencing.
Prosecutors say Brown met the victim, who was 15 at the time of the offense, and began to solicit her via text-messaging to have sex.
The victim's parents found the text messages and turned the phone over to law enforcement, who continued text messaging on the victim's behalf. Law enforcement arrested Brown at the agreed upon meeting place.
"Mr. Brown's psychosexual is troubling given his poor impulse control and lack of awareness of how enticing a child is a crime," said Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Erica Kallin. "He needs treatment and the community needs protection from him until that treatment is completed."
