But school district officials hope it won't come to that after the Caldwell School Board voted 3-to-1 Tuesday night to end a nine-year fundraising partnership with American Legion baseball.
The Caldwell High boys basketball team and the Caldwell American Legion baseball team split as much as $16,000 a year from the annual Steak and All You Can Eat Crab fundraiser.
But three of the four Caldwell school board members said they are uneasy with student athletes volunteering at an event where alcohol was also served.
The Caldwell school district superintendent says the Caldwell boys basketball team benefited greatly from the fundraiser with the American legion.
"There will be a need for that revenue to be replaced one way or another," said Superintendent Tim Rosandick. "It's clear that the fundraising enabled kids to be involved in basketball activities at reduced rates."
He said he's confident other fundraisers will be found to replace the lost revenue.
