Bald Mountain Ski Resort in Sun Valley is the only resort in southwest Idaho that is open for business. The Idaho staple opened for the season on Thanksgiving, largely because they make their own snow.
Tamarack Resort near Donnelly also manufactures snow, but they aren't opening their slopes until Dec.15.
Brundage Mountain Resort near McCall has to rely on Mother Nature for its snow, and it has a good start. Last week's storm delivered about eight inches of heavy, wet snow to the base area while the top picked up 18 inches.
This kind of snow serves as a good base because its weight packs down any brush growing on the mountain.
Although Brundage is not yet open for the season, resort managers are planning to open seven days a week Dec. 14. They will open for the weekends earlier than that if a winter storm brings additional snow.
