Dr. Zenko Hrynkiw was at Brookwood Medical Center Tuesday morning when he was needed for emergency brain surgery at Trinity Medical Center in Birmingham.
Traffic was at a stand still, so the good doctor walked 6 miles to reach the hospital.
Hrynkiw is Trinity's only brain surgeon, and without the surgery, the patient would have likely died.
"He had a 90% chance of death," Dr. Zenko Hrynkiw said. "And the nurses and the ER physician called me while I was walking - he was telling me he was deteriorated and went into unconciousness...he was dying. So if he didn't have surgery, he'd be dead, and it's not going to happen on my shift."
