Despite the end to the season, Steelhead Captain Ben Ondrus thinks the team accomplished a lot. Including the primary reason any minor league team exists; developing young talent, even though that was never really a main focus.
"Brad instilled a mentality of winning, it's a huge thing. I've been on teams where maybe that wasn't emphasized, it was more about player development, but throughout my career most of the management and anybody that I've talked to that's been successful will create a winning culture, and that's the best development you can have for young players.
"Hopefully, going forward from here, all the guys that are young in their careers will learn from it, and value the experience," said Ondrus.
That experience has already paid dividends, with more than a handful of Steelies bouncing back and forth between Idaho and the AHL, including both goaltenders.
