NAMPA, Idaho (KBOI) - The Nampa school district hired David Peterson for the next three years with an annual salary of $140,000 replacing long time interim superintendent Pete Kohler.
Peterson says he knows about the Nampa school districts past budget issues. "I know that there are significant financial challenges there and a lot of other problems that come from that and from the turnover that came from the decisions that needed to get made and it's actually a challenge that exited me about the job," Peterson said.
He says his biggest achievement was to get a high school built in his first two years that couldnt get funded for the past 30 years. Now he's facing a new challenge. "I am not coming with a preset packet of ideas with what we're going to do there. Some of the work is obvious. Common core, making sure we're in position to be able to be successful with that," he says.
Peterson says he will be crystal clear he has a grasp on the budget and will rebuild the reputation. He starts July 1st.
